AlphaGen has developed and patented a system for improving the life and performance of composite (fiberglass) piping systems, particularly for the coal fired power industry. Traditional fiberglass pipe that has been used in chemically corrosive environments since the 1950's is not sufficiently abrasion resistant. In fact, a small amount of abrasion can cause a catastrophic pipe failure as the glass fibers absorb moisture and the bond between the fiber and the resin fails. Pipe fabricators have developed abrasion resistant liners, which, although more abrasion resistant than uncoated pipe, require inordinate amounts of hand labor to apply and still do not provide adequate long-term protection Alpha-Gen ceramic materials provide the extremely abrasion resistant surface for the end user and the Alpha-Gen spray applicator speeds production and lowers overall production cost for the fabricator.
The FRP repair process today involves a labor intensive "hand-lay up process" in which traditional composite materials are applied to the decaying infrastructure. The use of Cerarmix to repair and develop new infrastructure provides the following advantages:
- Reduces use of petroleum based polymers.
- Reducing CO2 emissions
- Saving money
- Is made of inexpensive, abundant materials.
- Is applied more easily and accurately than alternative materials.
- Takes one-third the time of traditional methods.
- Is safe and less toxic, dramatically reducing all harmful emissions.
- Provides superior physical properties
